Brunswick Foodstore
The newest Brunswick food delight
March 21,2011
Groceries sorted – the Brunswick Foodstore is a hop, skip and jump from Barkley Square in East Brunswick, so pop in for a little baklava, a birdsnest or a nice piece of pistachio slice. The Brekkie too…it offers a delightful middle eastern twist.
Tucked away on Weston St, locals are enjoying some delicious Lebanese and Middle Eastern fare from the little café and foodstore, started by chef Richard Pavlov and his wife Suzie (who had Poached and Little B).
They’ve moved into a space once occupied by the Toby Estate’ Café and the coffee-dealer, who has retained its barista school next door, has been supplying their new neighbour with some divine blends ever since – a smooth, spicy Woolloomooloo house one and exotic single-origins.
For brekkie, toasted muesli topped with fresh strawberries comes with the orange-blossom yoghurt that Suzie strained herself and the sourdough with tangy fig and sesame jam. Order eggs with a Lebanese twist – chickpea puree, roasted tomatoes and zataar atop the poached ones or there’s scrambled with spicy sausage.
At lunch, grab a half or full size wrap –the falafel paired with pickled turnips, salad and tahini. Flat breads come with slow roasted veggies or minced lamb and the crumbed chicken with haloumi and house-made mayo settles on tasty Turkish bread. A fattoush tuna salad prepped with sumac, lemon and olive oil is a lighter choice or you can create your own mezze plate at the deli.
Diners eager to re-create their favorites can buy bottles of rosewater, pomegranate molasses or that great jam from Lebanon. Pickled greens, dips or stuffed vine leaves are also on offer. Staff are attentive and a delight to chat to.
This Brunswick sweetheart may just become your new favorite go to.
