Muther Of All Things
Wet fashion for the modern day surf diva
Since the invention of the bikini, there hasn’t really been much in the way of design progression in the swimwear category. Two-piece, maillot, cutout – the classic shapes revolve season after season. Against this background a new design team have brought something genuinely exciting to the category.
Muther Of All Things designers Joseline Godfrey and Marisa Sidoti have re-visioned Australian women’s beachwear to acknowledge urban and fashion-forward influences. They presented their breakthrough first collection to the world at artist David Bromely’s enchanting Melbourne studio. Melbourne’s creative community was revealed a moment of new direction for our national costume. The pair’s concept of ‘wet fashion’ has turned the notion of beach trend on its ear, leaving yesterdays print innovations on the discount racks.
For a visual representation check out their video here – it depicts not only the labels stunning design but also its inspiration.
Godfrey and Sidoti are Byron Bay girls, inevitably. Their connection with both the surfing life and international pulse of the beachy community has meant a design inspiration based on function, authenticity and the charmed coastal lifestyle. Their pieces, like the slinky catsuit-style wetsuit and the plunge-back rashie, are perfect for the lady who likes to end the day with a dip in the sea. Or the one who ends it with a drink at a waterfront bar. You will see them on fashion-aware girls who need to wear something suitable for both.
But the designers insist that you will notice the wearer’s confidence and inner beauty first. That is a true swimwear innovation – now we just need the weather to be friendly.
