It’s the perfect weekend road trip and the perfect Labour Day long weekend. 2.5hrs and loose change will get you there (unless your flying in – they do have an air strip), you’ll have a reason to dress up, you’ll be fed and entertained and you’ll even have the chance to have a little flutter.

This is the Echuca Cup.  A hallmark event of the country-racing calendar, which in recent times has gained somewhat of a celebrity following. There’s something about the country races; it’s more relaxed, just a little less about whom you were dressed by and you can actually feel like you’re getting away.

We like the sound of the Winners Circle Marquee. You’ll be treated to a fully furnished marquee, private courtyard, tab facilities, gourmet BBQ, and all beverages (beer, wine, champagne). Everyone loves a glamorous tent.

There’s also a crown up for grabs for the “country’s” best-dressed race goer. At a forecasted 26 and fine you might as well pull out the Derby Day kit which didn’t quite get the exposure you might have wanted.

As for our pick, No. 6 in the main race is a sure thing we’re told.
