Ingredient Tree
Try it then buy it
March 20,2012
It’s not often that customers are afforded a glimpse into a chef’s pantry or fridge, but that’s not the case at Wembley’s Ingredient Tree. The brand-spanking new venue on Herdsman Parade is both a food-store and a cafe – giving customers the opportunity to peruse the very ingredients which are used to create the compact but delightful menu.
Ever wished you could take home the ingredients which went into your muesli and yoghurt or find the same selection of cold meats which arrived at your table? At the Ingredient Tree you can simply enjoy your breakfast or lunch, then take a few sort steps from the cafe into the food-store and buy it to take home for yourself.
While cheap is not a word which springs to mind to describe the food-store goods, the selection makes it a foodies dream; beans and grains of all varieties, organic produce, high-quality olive oil – it’s all here and ready for you to take home. You can even buy tomatoes and cheese straight from the kitchen fridge.
The cafe menu offers a surprising number of options for vegetarians roast vegetable salad with raspberry and hazelnut dressing is delicious and at least four different varieties of pies were also available the day we visited. And of course you can’t forget the coffee – top baristas are at work with Melbourne’s Genovese ‘Super Brazil’ blend. If coffee’s not your thing then try the masala chai latte – you wont regret it!
