Cookie Dough Biscuits
Lisa Walsh from Cookie Dough Biscuits gives us her top five Bakeries
Imagine a specialty biscuit maker whose repertoire doesn’t include a single chocolate chip cookie. Lisa Walsh, Perth local and owner of Cookie Dough Biscuits is all about doing things differently. For the last two years, she’s been selling her hugely popular biscuits at local markets and cafés across town. These aren’t the frisbee-sized, weeks-old biscuits you see languishing in café jars. They’re fresh, rich, buttery little cookies made with natural ingredients (that’s right – not a single preservative!). Come November, the first Cookie Dough Biscuit shop will be opening on East Fremantle’s George Street. We interrupted her busy biscuit-making schedule to get her list of Perth’s best bakeries.
1. Choux Café, Swanbourne | chouxcafe.com.au
Swanbourne’s Choux Café is about as French as they come. There are fresh baguettes, beef bourguignon pies, quiches and pissaladieres. But most customers come for Celebrity chef Emmanuel Mollois’ specialty – and in Lisa’s opinion – “The most delicious macarons ever.”
2. Sherbet Cake and Bake Shop, Maylands | sherbetbakeshop.com.au
Whatley Crescent’s beloved bakery is worth the trip across town for this East Freo local. “I love the homestyle feel and their scrumptious cakes are so moreish,” Lisa swoons.
3. Sugar and Spice Patisserie, Joondalup
There are some bakeries that will make your mouth water at just the thought them. Sugar and Spice Patisserie does it for us. According to Lisa? “Everything they do is divine!” We wholeheartedly agree.
4. Littlesweet Baking, Fremantle | littlesweetbaking.com.au
“Show stoppers” is how Lisa describes the cakes at Little Sweet Baking. Chalk it up to the fact that they’re made from scratch, at home and in small batches. Sounds a lot like how Cookie Dough Biscuits run their show!
5. Kustom Cupcakes, Lathlain | kustomcupcakes.com.au
“I love the amazing sweet aroma in their bakery and they always have interesting flavour combinations,” says Lisa of Kustom Cupcakes, whose best-sellers include Banana Split, Musk and Cherry Ripe. There’s even a Cookie Dough cupcake. Hmmm… we foresee a cupcake-flavoured cookie in Lisa’s future. We’ll take all the credit, thanks!
