Foxes of Fancy
Fabulous handmade products with an eco touch
Don’t be expecting a cloud of incense or any soothing meditative music when you enter Foxes of Fancy. While this little shop is firmly eco, it’s one that sees eco as belonging to the mainstream. A collaboration between two designers, Stacey and Marianne, it doubles as their studio so your likely to catch them hard at work sewing or printing their latest creations.
As well as clothing and homewares by Stacey and Marianne, you might have seen their brands inuk designs and Tex & Joe at Upmarket, the shop features other handmade items from bags and stationery to luxe skin care products.
Nearly all stock comes from local WA craftspeople with the occasional product from ex-pat Stacey’s native Canada. But nothing gets to the shelves of Foxes of Fancy unless it’s an environmentally-conscious product and something fine and fabulous.
You’ll find the shop on Stirling Highway, close to the corner of Glyde Street. A once cramped ex-record store, architect David Weir has worked a miracle to make it roomy and inviting. It’s the kind of shop you’ll head to looking to find a unique gift but come away with something extra for yourself.
As for the name, it’s nothing deep and meaningful – just a phrase that sounds good. Though there is talk of getting some fox-themed products in (it’s a common question).
While neighborhood cafes deliver smooth post-purchase coffees, an online store awaits for the web-savvy.
