Perth Upmarket
Handmade and handcrafted in weekend shoppers paradise
For anyone who prefers the quirky over the conventional, or handmade to mass-made, Perth Upmarket is for you. This quarterly market brings together the state’s best artists, designers, stylists, craftspeople and cooks to the picturesque campus of the University of Western Australia.
You’ll want to set aside a couple of hours to fully explore the market’s 150 stalls. Wandering through Winthrop Hall, you’ll pass tables of one-of-a-kind clothing created by up-and-coming local designers, framed original paintings by talented artists, an array of picture-perfect home wares that would suit even the most eclectic house, and a staggering amount of jewellery.
Because the artists themselves man the stalls, the shopping experience becomes an incredibly interesting one. You can discover how the stallholder developed their paper-making skills, discover the story behind how the photographer took that tricky shot and maybe even commission a budding artist to create a piece to suit your fancy.
Those looking for something for the kids will rejoice – there’s an entire room dedicated to children’s clothes, toys and decor. As for the foodies, there are dozens of vendors selling locally produced olive oil, spreads and dips, as well as almost-too-perfect-to-eat cupcakes and confectionary. Don’t worry – there’s coffee on hand too.
So whether you’re looking for the perfect gift for someone who’s got it all, or if you like the idea of buying locally created wares, then Perth Upmarket is not to be missed.
Happy shopping!
