Ballet at the Quarry

Pack your esky and head to the Quarry for some culture

Ballet at the Quarry

If the summer music festivals have left you feeling, well, a little uncultured in the more traditional forms of art then a dose of ballet may be the antidote. And what better place to experience top notch ballet than at the Quarry Ampitheatre. Here the WA ballet celebrates its Diamond Jubilee with a line up of international artists and world premiers.

This year’s show is set to rival New York’s summer series in Central Park, but forget about a plane ticket, you only have to head to City Beach.

See Serenade, inspired by the work of Tchaikovsky and created by father of American ballet, George Balanchine. A romance with a bite, dancers take you through an edgy tale of love and loss. This has fast become the signature piece of the New York Ballet.

WA ballet artistic director, Ivan Cavallari, follows with a Premier, his Strings 32 is set to the strains of Paganini and Kreisler. And just when you think your cultural bucket is filling up nicely,  WA Ballet  pulls a fast one  with a performance to the strains of Daft Punk and Maroon 5. Inspired by a New York Urban Legend, WA’s own Reed Luplau has created The Sixth Borough, an edgy ballet more like a movie than dance.

So pack your esky, grab a place under the stars and immerse yourself in fabulously choreographed ballet pieces from around the world.
