Super Night Shot, The Gob Squad

Your city needs you, this is the message from renegade theatre The Gob Squad as they set out on a war on anonymity and make their remarkable film the hour before your show starts.

And it’s you, the audience and other unsuspecting members of the public that are its stars. Innovative, contemporary performance company, The Gob Squad, is a group of UK and German artists who have gained international acclaim for their cutting edge concepts of theatre.

The group explores the blurry lines where theatre meets performance, art and media as they deliver the banality of everyday life and soak it in the glitz of the big screen blockbuster. Using “super night shot”, a mode on video cameras used to film in dark conditions, four Gob Squaders set out one hour before performance time and take to the streets of Northbridge. They work together, without a director, on the concept and design of the evenings show; devising and performing their work and finding strangers for an onscreen kiss, an unlikely hero and planning car chases.

Filmed randomly as a rap video, musical or action movie, the audience only finds out on the night.  As the film travels through its climax, members of the public are involved in various scenarios, as the final moment is acted out, unwittingly, by the audience.

All four videos are played back simultaneously as a sound artist mixes sound effects live. See your city as never before and your place in it. Are you ready to shine?
