Feast Your Eyes

A night of the best of WA’s emerging visual, musical and cinematographic

Feast Your Eyes

For those who say that Perth is lacking in culture, we say open your eyes – or better yet, feast your eyes.

Feast Your Eyes is a creative festival for emerging visual artists, filmmakers and musicians in WA. Hosted by the Fremantle Arts Centre this Saturday October 15, the event provides an opportunity for local up-and-coming artists to showcase their works to the wider community. This year’s exhibition theme is ‘city space,’ attracting work from 18 visual artists, 20 filmmakers and three WA bands.

A wander through the Fremantle Arts Centre will bring you face to face with artwork in a variety of media – photographs, illustrations, paintings and sketches.

Among them is Steven Christie’s artwork, created with a .13 Faber technical pen and inspired by the ways that music and art culture can influence a city. Acrylic paintings by Anya Brock on the other hand illustrate the artist’s fondness for nature and love hate relationship with the city.

For those who prefer a moving picture, the expansive courtyard will be transformed into an outdoor cinema for the night, screening the work of over 20 emerging local filmmakers. One to look out for is local filmmaker Michelle Williamson’s movie The Craftsman, an animation depicting an old man fighting against the digital revolution threatening his livelihood. Then there’s Living with Benjamin, an award-winning independent short horror film produced by the trio behind local production company Quarter to Four.

Live performances by local acts Billie Rogers, The Lonely Brothers and Voltaire Twins will punctuate the night and offer the perfect opportunity to savour a beer, a bite and a feast of Perth culture.
