Rock Lily
Tequila & live music at Star City's latest A-list hang
April 19,2011
With the hundreds of millions of dollars being injected into Star City’s much-needed revamp, it was only a matter of time before new bar and restaurant offerings started flowering. The first to make a splash is Rock Lily, an intimate live music venue that doubles as an impressive shrine to tequila.
The venue, which has been open just over a week, has already played host to some seriously heavyweight entertainment contenders – we’re still kicking ourselves that we didn’t score a VIP after-party invite to hang with Snoop Dogg and Nelly, right after their gig at Star City’s Ballroom. Such are the benefits of having a music bar with casino connections.
Forget P Diddy’s Cristal – the new rapper’s delight must be fine, aged tequila. Rock Lily’s back bar is stocked with some serious booze bling like Siete Leguas D’Antaño extra añejo for a very reasonable $70 per shot. In fact, the shelves moan under the weight of some 100 different tequilas, mescals, and sotols, with an impressive American whiskey offering to boot.
At its heart, however, Rock Lily is about grabbing a beer or shot and enjoying the fine line-up of entertainment. Grab a ‘Shotgun Wedding’ – Jack Daniels followed by a Budweiser – or if that doesn’t work, the menu also offers an ‘Annulment’: a Bud followed by a shot of Jack. They also mix margaritas with the best in town, thanks to venue manager Dan Woolley (soon to open his own whisky bar, Arcane) whipping the team into shape.
Open all Easter, get along to Rock Lily to see the Hell City Glamours, Familia and Smitty & B.Goode this Good Friday, or open your Easter eggs to the progressive rock sounds of Only The Sea Slugs. The long weekend means there are five days to feed your hangover, so rock on.
