A laneway treat to appease the post-holiday blues
With the silly season in full swing, we missed the opening of this little gem. Tucked away in York Lane Wynyard, the aptly named York Lane is a welcoming little espresso bar by morning and a licensed bar and restaurant come the afternoon. Welcoming, meaning that unlike some of Sydney’s laneway bars and cafés this hole in the wall is not in a basement.
For all you folk who are back at work suffering post-holiday blues, this place has the perfect pick-me-up coffee. If you have the time, stay a while, pull up a milk crate and take in the unique laneway atmosphere. Upcycling has been used to create all the furnishings here, from milk crates, railway sleepers and bits of old furniture. Vinyl records play indie music in the background while the menu is hand written and stuck to the wall. For bicycle fans there is a vintage Colnago Track bicycle hanging on the wall – it all builds character.
For those after a quick bite there are easy and tasty breakfast treats as well as sandwiches for lunch. If something a little slower is more your thing, there is a Tapas style menu – the duck pancakes are pretty damn awesome. This little gem is a great option to head out for lunch with work mates or to chill for a light meal at the end of your day with a vino, cold beer or a splendid cocktail. The service is great and the vibe is typically laneway.
