Your new winter hideaway

Colin Fassnidge from Four in Hand is at it again. His latest addition, 4fourteen has landed right in the heart of Surry Hills just in time to ward off those winter blues.
Completely a buzz on a mere Tuesday night, the lively atmosphere is felt the second you step foot through the door. A warm ambiance greets you as a cosy lighting scheme and an eclectic mix of old school cool music is immediately noticed. The rustic layout, weathered style walls and vast array of seating furnishings eloquently fortify the already great ‘feels like home’ vibe.
There is an open style kitchen, of which patrons can sit (in a bar like set up), amongst the chef’s hustle and bustle and watch their food come to life. The kitchen staff are graceful in their movements, working swiftly and succinctly with an elegant sense of calm making your food that little bit more special.
Everything on the menu has been well thought out and designed to encompass a touch of art in every dish. The absolute stand out of the night was the orange and ginger carrots with yoghurt, these bad boys were the most amazing carrots we’ve ever eaten.
Highly note-worthy was the lamb breast with eggplant, sorrel, white anchovy and red pepper and also the chicken wing with parfait, crispy tortilla and quince chutney. Don’t forget to cap your taste-bud soiree off with a delicious accompaniment from the desert menu. May we recommend the donut and apple with flavours that appear to be a quirky twist on the traditional apple pie.
There are a few gorgeous cocktails on the menu but the real star of the beverage show at 4fourteen is the wine list. With an entire wall adorning a vast array of delectable wines it does not surprise us that the list is several pages long.
Be sure to book as every man and his dog will be hiding out from the cold here this winter, and with a culinary performance like this… we don’t blame them.
