Helm Bar
Rediscover the harbour with a cheeky mid-week wine at Helm Bar
February 13,2012
We’re going to hazard a bit of a guess here and say that as a Sydneysider, you’ve probably been taking your Harbour for granted. It’s true that we’ve had a pretty dismal summer, but even when the sun is shining it’s remarkably easy to mentally relegate the harbourside strips to the domain of tourist and instead head for drinks in a laneway bar with no view.
Perhaps sensing that we might need a bit of prompting to take in the sea air, Darling Harbour’s Helm Bar has launched a series of wine nights, running from February 16 to March 15 in their Lower Deck beer garden. Each Thursday will showcase a different wine from Invivo, a boutique New Zealand winery that’s been attracting international attention since its first harvest in 2008. Their citrusy Sauvignon Blanc has just picked up the title of ‘word’s best’ at the 2011 Cathay Pacific IWSC wine competition and is apparently the only wine that chat show host Graham Norton will have on set. High praise indeed. The five variety range also includes a Pinot Noir, a Rosé, a Pinot Gris and bella – a low alcohol, low calorie version of the Sauvignon Blanc.
A rather pocket-friendly $5 will get you a glass of this award-winning wine and, of course, a harbour view.
