Roy’s seafood tapas restaurant is no big secret to the Bondi-savvy. This is a social hub, drawing in the crowds with its slick bar and kitchen, retro artwork, delicious sharing plates, loungey vibe, live music and sociable garden where people mix at long wooden tables. And of course there’s Roy, who’s there most nights, welcoming you into his eatery, chatting to his customers and serving alongside the waiters and waitresses.
But not many people know that Roy’s offers the best value banquet in town. At $35 a head it really is a steal! And the food doesn’t stop coming. Let’s illustrate. The scene: a garden table with ten happy people drinking fruit-laden sangria and listening to live acoustic guitar wafting from the bar. The feast: sharing plates with manchego cheese, delicious salamis, sour dough rye, pickles and marmalade onions; tapas of chorizo, garlic prawns, potatoes bravos, oven-roasted mushrooms, capsicum frittata, wagyu steak, soft-shell crab, beetroot and goats cheese salad, and much more.
It sounds like a lot and it is. But not overwhelming. The food is delicious. Timing between dishes is just right and the jugs of $20 Sangria make the perfect accompaniment.
