The Village
New light for old friends in Potts Point
March 30,2012
Potts Point is constantly evolving and The Village is the latest dolled-up debutante on the formerly dark backstreets.
Owners James Moses and Andrew De Saxe have literally brought new light to the site – adding windows to the back wall of what used to be Favela, a brazilian BBQ and nightclub, and turning it into multi-level bistro meets pub meets club venture.
Friends from school days, owners Moses and De Saxe encourage a community feel, hence the name ‘The Village’. Inside they’ve gone for a timeless black and white theme, softened by green foliage. Bentwood chairs are tucked around long wooden tables and intimate marble-topped tables for two. Emerald tiles line the walls from the floor to the bar in the sunken bistro area, which leads to the sun-drenched courtyard.
Food here is standard pub fare and simple Italian-style pleasures like sicilian arancini, figs with goats cheese or prosciutto wrapped around asparagus steamed to snappable perfection.
Mixologist Pete Rosser and Chef Tristan Johnson collaborate on the cocktail menu. Rosser regularly raids the kitchen to add bespoke touches to new recipes, like a Strawberry and Basil sidecar with balsamic rim. Wine and french champagne is served by the glass or bottle and Tiger beer and Montieth’s cider is on tap.
It’s not just the cocktail and kitchen menus that change with the seasons, in April the team will introduce a brunch menu and a promise of blankets and patio heaters – providing locals with a welcoming place to meet all year round.
