Tiger Mottle
Soothing tunes and reviving brews in Paddington’s Five Ways
June 15,2012
Whether you’re recovering from a big night or a heavy work week – seek out the insanely good coffee and crave-worthy brunches at Tiger Mottle which have kept the corner of Paddington’s Five Ways buzzing for the past four years.
Soothing tunes from owner Pete Henderson’s extensive and coveted vinyl collection, served up with comforting classic English-style food from British chef Ben Webber will set you back on your feet.
The mostly-organic menu changes with the seasons (the winter menu has just been announced) but dishes like Bread and Butter Pudding of Bubble and Squeak are so popular there may be mutiny from the Paddington posse should they be removed. The Fancy Pants Bacon and Egg sandwich is as much fun to say as it is to eat but there’s also healthier options like the Oat and Quinoa porridge with spiced poached prunes, almonds, apples and dried apricots or the Chicken Salad with charred marinated chicken, broccoli, leaves, quinoa, alfalfa sprouts, almonds seeds & lemon vinaigrette. Get in early for the sweet Pumpkin Pancakes stacked with generous dollops of blueberry compote, cinnamon, ricotta and honey.
Service is prompt and friendly – things move swiftly across the formica table tops and wooden floorboards, but there’s never a feeling of being rushed.
Fans of good coffee seek out Tiger Mottle – it also serves a busy weekday crowd. Once the morning rush is over, people conduct meetings beside the fire over cups of Golden Cobra coffee and muffins baked daily.
